Stuntman-turned-director Sam Hargrave back in the director’s chair for an adrenaline-pumping sequel that gets audiences right into the action. After Rake was declared clinically dead following the events Extraction, this Australian mercenary is fighting his way back with a purpose. This time, a mysterious client requests him specifically, sending Tyler into a Georgia prison to save a woman and her two children from an abusive gangster. Like the first movie, Extraction 2 not having to sacrifice layered storytelling for Hemsworth to break through a prison yard full of guards while on fire – that’s just a bonus. The sequel is set to uncover more of Rake’s past, hinting at a personal connection to the woman tasked with saving him.

That Extraction series is based on Ciudad graphic novel, with a screenplay written by Joe Russo, who co-wrote the graphic novel Ande Park and his brother Anthony. It’s different with their work in Marvel films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier And Avengers: Endgame, Extraction 2 pushing the boundaries of cinematic action sequences, with helicopters landing on a train, one minute 21, and groundbreaking camera work that plunges viewers into sweat, blood, and explosions as a testament to how filmmaking continues to evolve. The double-edged sword for getting a feature like this straight to streaming is that you miss the bone-shaking explosion, and see it all unfold 30 feet high, and that’s why Collider is excited to team up with Netflix to give fans the opportunity to experience it all together.

If you’re in the New York City area and have the means to join in, pre-screenings will be Tuesday, June 13, at 4 p.m. at the Paris Theatre. Once the film is complete, Collider will be holding a Q&A with director, Hargrave, and producer Anthony Russo.
