Back again, huh, Jonathan? In news that shouldn’t surprise anyone, the John Wick the series is alive and kicking—though it seems the titular hero isn’t, at the end of the most recent film in the saga. Director Chad Stahelski had previously indicated that the series would continue in conversations with Collider, and now Lionsgate has confirmed it, according to a report by Total Film.
John Wick: Chapter 4 burst into theaters earlier this year, wowing audiences and breaking series box office records with a stunning three-hour display of action, violence and nearly catharsis as Keanu Reeves‘ Wick finally begins to free himself from the High Table, by seeking revenge on the entire world. Given the film’s financial success, it’s only natural that Lionsgate won’t want to let go of their golden goose just yet.
During Lionsgate’s Q4 2023 earnings call, chairman of the Motion Picture Group Joe Drake confirmed that the fifth John Wick the film is still in early development. Drake also confirmed plans to expand Wick’s intellectual property into spin-offs, more television series and video games.
“We’re now moving across that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but seeing a regular cadence of spinoffs, television actually expanding that universe so that there’s a steady cadence of a franchise that has defined tastes. by the audience. What’s official is that, as many of you know, Ballerina is the first spin-off coming out next year. We are currently developing three more, including John Wick 5 and including a television series. Continental will be live soon. So, we’re building a world and when those five films come, it’s going to be organic — it’s going to grow organically from how we start to tell those stories. But you can count on John Wick’s regular beats. “
